Drop-off & Pick-up

Drop-off

FIRST DAY: Parents/Guardians are allowed to walk their children into the classroom.

ALL OTHER DAYS: School doors open at 7:30AM, school starts promptly at 8AM. Students must be either dropped in the car line or walked to the front doors. Children must not be left unattended to enter school.

LATE DROP-OFF

ARRIVAL AFTER 8:01AM: Students arriving at 8:01AM or later are considered late and must be checked in at the front office by a Parent/Guardian. Remember that all adults entering the building are required to present a physical State ID to the office staff.

EARLY PICK-UP

TRANSPORTATION CHANGES: Transportation changes must be submitted or requested prior to 2PM every day. Please choose your method of pick-up (car riders or walkers) and stick to it for the entire year, barring an unforeseen circumstance or emergency only.

EARLY DISMISSAL: Remember that if your child needs to leave early, early dismissal ends at 2:30PM every day. After 2:30PM, daily dismissal is in effect.

PICK-UP

ALL DAYS: Dismissal begins at 3PM and ends at 3:25PM every day, unless otherwise announced.

  • Car Riders: Students may be picked-up in the car line, whereby authorized parties must display the Dan Mills placard in the front of the car with the student’s name on it.

  • Walkers: Students may be picked-up on foot by authorized parties waiting at the left side of the building near the loading dock and displaying a sign with the student’s full name.

LATE Pick-up

ALL DAYS: If a Parent/Guardian arrives after 3:25PM, they must walk to the front of the school (exiting their vehicle, if applicable) and sign the student out on the Late Pick-up Form with the Late Duty teacher.

ATTENDANCE

The Dan Mills attendance recording system accounts for every minute a student is not in the building. These minutes accumulate and could eventually add up to an entire school day missed. Frequent absences and tardiness inevitably affect children’s learning.

ABSENCES

If a student is late or absent for any of the following reasons, the absence may be excused if written documentation is provided by either the Parent/Guardian or a healthcare provider (up to 10 submissions):

  • Student’s personal illness (may return to school after being symptom-free for 24-hours)

  • Doctor, dental, or therapy/mental health appointments

  • Bereavement/death in the family (up to three days excused)

  • Military deployment of Parent/Guardian

    • 1 day for deployment

    • 1 day for return

    • <10 days for service member’s temporary leave of absence mid-deployment

  • Head lice (up to 3 days per infestation)

  • Recognized religious holidays observed in child’s faith

  • Court appearances or legally-mandated meetings

  • Unexpected emergencies

If your child was or will be absent, please use the link here or the QR code below to send the office a direct notification of the absence and reason (excused/not excused).
